Mama Jade was rescued after having babies near a very busy street. It wasn’t a safe place for her and the kittens to be so we took her in. All her babies quickly got adopted but no one wanted to adopt an older cat. Finally in 2021 a family fell in love with her and she got adopted. However, she never adapted to her new home and after 6 months of trying to make her comfortable, we agreed it was best for her to come back to the sanctuary. She couldn’t have been happier to come back with us. Mama Jade isn’t a lap cat but she loves being around people, being part of what is happening. She loves to chat and get some cuddles. She has been battling with liver issues for the last 6 months but her health is stable now as long as she gets her daily liver support supplements.

Polly was found by a woman who was holidaying in Bali. She started feeding her daily and Polly basically moved it. She was pregnant at the time and gave birth to 2 beautiful ginger boys. When the woman had to leave Bali, she didn’t know what to do as she couldn’t leave Polly out in the street with 2 young kittens. So she contacted us for help. We agreed to take the 3 of them at The Odd Cat. The kittens quickly got adopted once they were old enough. But no one wanted to adopt Mama Polly because she was already an adult. Although, if you spend any time with Polly, you will see that she is still a kitten at heart. She loves to play, whether it’s on her own or with people, she will always be the first to chase the toys. She is discrete and independent, and isn’t a fan of being with so many other cats. She would thrive in her own home with children to play with her daily.

Meong was found with a rubber band around his leg by one of our dog rescue friends. They tried to save his leg but the wound wouldn’t heal, the tissues on his skin were already dead and rotten. We had to amputate his leg. He is now a very happy 3-legged cat. His missing leg doesn’t stop him from chasing other cats up the trees or jump on people’s laps for cuddles. He is very quick, very agile and a big love bug who will sit on your laps purring for hours.

Sabela was brought to us by a family for boarding. What was supposed to be a few months, turned into a few years. The family wasn’t able to come back to Bali. We helped them organize Sabela to travel to Europe to be reunited with them, and once she was ready to travel, the family always had an excuse to postpone. After a few months I decided to stop trying. Sabela deserves a family of her own instead of waiting for a family for 3 years who didn’t have her best interests at heart. Sabela is very talkative and doesn’t like kittens. However, she goes along well with any other adult cats, and even dogs. She loves to be around people but is also not so needy. She responds to her name and loves the attention given to her, and yummy treats.

Chutchut is the first kitten we rescued from the new sanctuary, He was living in the kos next door to us and was being handled very roughly by the little girl who lived there. He was covered in scabies. Shortly after we first saw him there, the people moved out and left little Chutchut behind. We took him in and treated his skin. He then got an infection in his eye, which didn’t heal properly. He is very cuddly and easy to handle. Loves people and playing with other kittens.

Gabriel was rescued from the traditional market with really bad eye infection. His left eye was bleeding and the right one was very dirty. Other than that, he was a healthy 5-6 weeks old kitten. The vets asked us to clean his damaged eye until he weighted 500gr before having the surgery. After a few days though, his left eyeball popped out itself and was removed without the operation. He felt so much better after that. He is now a healthy and needy 1 year old kitty. He knows and responds to his name. He loves to play with other cats and can be very naughty. He loves talking to people. 

Gabriel

Madu was found in the streets of Bali when he was only a few weeks old. He had no eyes. He stayed in foster until he was about 5 months old, then he joined the Odd Cat team. Unlike the other cats at the sanctuary, Madu was never for adoption. He was so happy and loved with us, and he was very bonded with one of our cat carers, he couldn’t be separated from her. Madu was amazing. He was completely blind but the most curious, adventurous cat. He loved to hang out on people’s shoulders, loved exploring whatever new items were brought in the cafe. He loved greeting new people. He was an the best advocate for cats with disabilities. People would come in and feel sorry for him, until they saw him go around and do his thing, then they would realize he is just like any other cat. He loved to climb on the shelves, loved his food, loved playing and snuggling. Quickly people started hearing about him and would come visit us just to meet him. He became our mascot. In January 2021, Madu was diagnosed with FIP. He was one of the first cats we treated for FIP and it was a success. The treatment was very heavy and very long, 3 months of daily injections but he took it like a champ and survived the terrible disease. He was a fighter and never gave up or showed any weaknesses. Sadly though, in November 2021, Madu passed of a heart failure. It broke all of our hearts, Odd Cat team and the thousands of supporters who loved him just as much as we did. Madu has inspired a lot of artists, and we received a lot of art pieces of him, and we have made a different merchandises with him as everyone just wanted something to remember him by. He will always be so special in our hearts and should be remembered forever.

Milo was left with his sister Misty when they were just kittens. While Misty grew well and healthy, Milo stayed very small and skinny for months. The vets couldn’t tell what was wrong with him. We were worried he wouldn’t live very long. After a few months though he finally started gaining weight and caught up to the size of his sister. Milo has a very special color for a bali cat. He is so sweet and friendly with people and other cats as well. He has a bit of a limp on his back leg. It seems to be a birth defect but it absolutely doesn’t bother him.

Orient was rescued from a filthy damp empty house, dehydrated, skinny, with bad diarrhea and an early stage of scabies. Luckily he was quite friendly and could be caught before he got worse. Orient loves to cuddle and be handled, he responds to his name when called. He is not a needy cat but loves the attention when given to him. He was adopted just before the pandemic, by a doctor, and when Covid-19 started, his dad was moved around in Indonesia to help in overcrowded hospitals, so Orient was returned to us. He was very depressed the first few weeks back at The Odd Cat, but with a lot of love from all the team, he eventually got better.

Tommy was left in a box in front of The Odd Cat with his 2 siblings when they were only about 10 days old. They had to be bottle fed until they could start eating solid food on their own, at about 5 weeks old. Tommy’s sister quickly got adopted once she was vaccinated and moved with her family to the Netherlands. Tommy and his other brother had to stay with us much longer as after they were vaccinated they were sick on and off for months, especially Tommy. We didn’t think he would make it to adulthood. But here he is now, a very healthy and loving cat. He responds well to his name, and likes to chat when talked to. He absolutely loves cuddling with other cats, and all the cats love cuddling with him. He is also very affectionate with people and loves to be picked up and handled.

Sally was brought to our vet by a tourist because she was a pregnant stray cat. Less than 24 hours after she arrived at the vet, she gave birth to 3 kittens. Unfortunately the babies didn’t make it and Sally had nowhere to go. The vet asked us if we had space for her, so we took her in. For the first few months, we thought about releasing her somewhere safe as she was quite feral. She actually managed to run away from us one time, but she came back and she started to show that she was actually quite happy with us. Gaining her trust was a long journey. She is so sweet and so beautiful that many people have asked to adopt her. 2 families actually took her home. They did their best to make her feel comfortable but Sally never adjusted. She was brought back to us and can’t be happier. She is sweet and affectionate and has the softest fur ever. She is also claustrophobic.

The Odd Cat Bali started as a cat cafe but needed to change things up due to the pandemic. We are a rescue and adoption centre and boarding facility for cats in Bali, and our main focus is to help cats through education of stray cats’ growing population and welfare in the local community.
